Notwithstanding all of the shrieking and gnashing of teeth among the leftest hordes, Trump and Sessions have pulled off a genius move.
True to his commitment to Constitutional governance, Trump has pointed out that he swore to faithfully execute the office of the President in accordance with the Constitution, and that Constitution requires that the President uphold the laws that are created by Congress.
DACA is clearly in violation of Federal Immigration laws, as written and passed by Congress, and Trump is wholly bound and required to discard DACA, and return to lawful enforcement of enacted law.
But - Trump has shrewdly announce that his new enforcement plans will not go into effect for six months, and he has openly invited Congress to use those six months to CHANGE IMMIGRATION LAW - up to and including enacting DACA as the law of the land.
The brilliance of this is: Congress has two choices:
1. Fail to enact new Immigration law - in which case Trump will abolish DACA, and it will clearly be the case that Congress really didn't want DACA or its equivalent enacted - and Trump will be faithfully carrying out his obligation to enforce the existing laws. And - the heat will be on Congressional lawmakers for allowing the law to remain in place.
2. Pass DACA - or some similar equivalent - into law, and Trump will sign the new law - and take credit for LAWFULLY bringing about meaningful change to US Immigration law - where his predecessors have failed to do so in any lawful manner.
Either way, Trump wins. Art of the Deal 2.0 - Trump is a master!
Make America Great Again!!!
